Tailings Dewatering & Dry Stacking Plant
Modern environmental tailings management plants replacing risky tailings dams with solid dry cakes and 95%+ recycled process water.
1. Process Overview & Flowchart Explanation
The Tailings Dewatering and Dry Stacking Plant provides complete environmental management of mineral processing plant effluents. Flotation or gravity tailings slurry is pumped directly to Hydrocyclone Separators to split coarse and fine fractions. Coarse underflow solids discharge directly onto high-G High Frequency Dewatering Screens, yielding dry sand cake with 12-15% moisture.
Fine slime overflow from the hydrocyclones is dosed with flocculant and thickened in a High Efficiency Thickener, where clear clarified water is continuously recovered for plant reuse. The thickened sludge underflow (55-65% solids) is fed to Disc Vacuum Filters, filtering the slime into firm dry filter cakes (15-20% moisture) suitable for truck hauling and safe dry stacking, completely eliminating wet tailings dams.
2. Technical Advantages & Features
- Zero Tailings Dam Hazard: Replaces catastrophic wet tailings dams with solid dry cake stacking, eliminating environmental dam breach risks.
- 95%+ Process Water Recycling: Thickener overflow water is crystal clear and returned immediately to the milling circuit, conserving water in arid regions.
- Staged Dewatering Efficiency: Combining cyclones, dewatering screens, thickeners, and vacuum disc filters cuts energy costs compared to single-stage filter presses.
- Land Footprint Reduction: Dry stacking dramatically shrinks the required tailings surface footprint and facilitates progressive site rehabilitation.
